The High Line was built in 1930 on the west side of Manhattan. Until the 1960’s trains ran from 35th street to St. John’s Park Terminal, which encompassed four blocks on the Hudson River between Clarkson and Spring. The High Line’s Terminus now lies at the corner of Ganesvoort & Washington Streets just a block off the West Side Highway. The studio I work in sits directly across from this point.
Construction began January 2006. The plan will convert the remaining sections of the High Line from pigeon habitat to a public park with shopping, restaurants, and offices.
In February 2006 I began making a single photograph of the Manhattan High Line everyday from a fixed tripod with a 35mm film camera. When construction is completed a film will be edited together stringing together every image in chronological order from start to finish.
A website dedicated to the documentation of the completed project is coming soon! Details & updates can be found here in the meantime.
